Second Life News You Can Use

Some of ya'll may already be aware that I sometimes mine content for this li'l bloggie from my Google News Alert for "Second Life." Well, this morning the content is so varied and various that I'd like to just copy and paste from my email. Browse to your heart's content, secure in the knowledge that much is happening in the SL arena. The system is not perfect, however: It baldly missed my posts yesterday at MUVErs.org about John Miller's SL work in the online nursing education arena and here, about the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach's entry into Second Life. Another thing it didn't pick up is my dear friend Gia's reply to a stupid post at ScotlandonSunday, an online rag whose writers apparently have free reign to write without doing any research into the topic they're actually writing about. The post is inordinately lame, but the reply is, well, the reply is Gia.

Still, I think you'd agree there's a lotta stuff here!

Knowclue.com, a great source for video

Hey, all, lookin' for more examples of video you can share with others to demonstrate the value of Second Life? There are, of course, a bunch here, but also head on over to knowclue.com, my dear friend Know Kidd's (Marianne Malmstrom irl) stellar site with dozens of professionally produced machinima. I'm just sayin'... There are some reeealllly big things in the works for quality machinima with a purpose, over at MUVErs LLC… Continue

IRL Education Videos

Hey, ya'll, Significant archives from SLEDCC 2008 in Tampa, Florida are available at http://scottsecondlife.blogspot.com/2008/09/veodia-channel-embed-for-sledcc.html and via the SLED wiki at http://sledcc.wikispaces.com/ . While this site is mainly dedicated to machinima-type videos, I don't see any reason not to include these resources here as well! Cheers!

This might work!

What if...there were a place we could count on in a pinch when we're standing in front of a crowd trying to explain?

What if...a good reliable repository that didn't choke on good-sized videos were available?

What if...that place is this place?

Hey you!

I've got so many groups and pages I can't keep track! Dewey told me that he told his students he was trying to set a record by getting onto all the 2.0 networking sites he could find. LOL! He's gonna be busy :-)

I'll be (nominally) leading the 3 hour hands-on workshop "SLedupotential" at NECC. Come be there! It's bound to be entertaining, to say the least, as 9 educators from 9 differerent states dish out SL experience, resources, and musings.

MA307 SLedupotential: Educational Potential of Second Life and Virtual Environments [Workshop : Hands-on] (42047811)
Scheduled: Monday, 6/30/2008, 8:30am–11:30am
Location: TBA mid-May

I'm attending the IBM "What's Missing" Summit this week, two two hour sessions in IBM's ActiveWorlds to "leverage Virtual Worlds for learning." I'll report out. Meanwhile, I have found http://www.nbhorizons.com/videos.html , a repository of videos made by commercial enterprises to demonstrate their use of the 3Di. I'll add this to the wiki, too. Cheerio. Carry on :)

I'm thinking it's kinda okay to keep it going. I find myself adding stuff and I see others are so let's keep it up for a while. I'll re-evaluate come the end of my school year. :)

You're very welcome, and thanks for joining us. The group's a bit of a trial, to see if maintaining it will be useful enough to enough educators to justify its existence ;)
